When we told everyone that the Alexa Toolbar helps your Google ranking, there were some Doubting Thomases who said:
. . . I find [this] faulty. No, is poppycock.
and
But why would Google use Alexa’s information for ranking and indexing, when it has all it’s own technology? This just does not add up boys and girls.
Poppycock? Well here’s a screen shot of an MSN search yesterday for seoblackhat:

The First Result is the SEOblackhat.com Alexa Ranking Page
Now, lets check the page rank of that site. IE bar says 1, but the more reliable check at SEOpen from Firefox yields this screen shot:

Balderdash? Poppycock? or is that a page rank 2 I see before me?
Why yes it is. And look kids, it has link that redirects back to SEOblackhat.com
To quote from my earlier Alexa post:
We know Google looks at the Information, which means that Yahoo and MSN are probably looking at it too.
While we still have to wait to see if the link appears in Yahoo, we now have indisputable evidence that both MSN and Google at least tacitly use the Alexa rankings.
Don’t get me wrong, every Bozo with a keyboard “Internet Marketing Expert” is entitled to there own opinion – no matter how wrong or void of facts they may be.
The interesting thing is, I would never have found this faulty “opinion” had I not used blogpulse to check SEOBlackHats.com discussions because 7vmarketing put the rel=”nofollow” tag on the link to on my post.
I re-invite everyone, even our friend who made the slight at 7vmarketing (whose site curiously has a title that says “A Truly Fresh Approach To Internet Marketing …”) to download the Alexa toolbar and get at a minimum the free PR 2 backlink.

Good article, it does help to have a lower ranking. We have created a program that allows webmasters to enter their site and surf for a lower alexa rating. The cool part about our system is you are required to have the Alexa Toolbar installed to earn credits. This way everyone who takes part gets a lower rating. The more you take part, the lower it goes.
If it was by way of using the Alexa toolbar, I think there would be far more entries in the SERPs for these types of Alexa pages.
By way of Alexa’s robots.txt entries, these shouldn’t be accessible to the common SEs.
Why would Google use Alexa’s (limited) traffic data, when they have a firehose of data on site visits coming at them via the Google toolbar? Just because you see green pixels, that doesn’t mean Google has the page indexed.
BTW, if you look at the URL you’re checking PR for (with the ‘more reliable’ SEOpen tool), you’ll see that the oddly formed URL Alexa uses for their traffic stats gets cut down to “http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=” which has nothing to do with your site at all. Just squint at your screen shot a little harder.
Stop arguing people… There is no harm of having your Alexa toolbar and be using it yourself. At the most you will loose 10 minutes of your life doing so.
Just make up your mind whether you want to gamble 10 minutes of your life for a PR2 or not. That is all. Make things simple.
PEACE!

Hey, regardless of whether or not MSN, Google, or whomever uses or does not use, boosting your Alexa Rating information will not hurt your site. Just like everything in life, there is no holy grail. Getting a good Alexa Rating is just another piece of the puzzle.
BTW, AlexaSurf does not work. If you sign up for it, your sites will stay in the INACTIVE state and you will only be boosting the alexa rating for alexasurf.com and a few others. It will not help your site at all.
