Jeff Random’s post on Adult Webmasters & the Gamer Generation could be re-written almost entirely mad-libs spam style like:
adult webmasters SEO Black Hats
and retain almost all of it’s impact and meaning.
Min/max is gamer shorthand for a strategy or even a mindset. Most games try to be balanced. So for every advantage/shortcut/strength etc that you choose, there is some compensatory drawback/resource required/flaw/weakness etc. However, when you focus on ‘winning’ ie achieving X goal, there are often places that the drawback isn’t relevant.
For those like myself, the work itself becomes a game.
I Couldn’t agree more. One of the most compelling pieces of the Internet, Search Engine Optimization, and the Black Hat SEO arts for many of us is the gaming or “min max” element. If it wasn’t a challenge, there weren’t winners and losers or many ways to keep score (SERPS, Conversions, money in the bank), we would probably just get bored and try something else.
(Un?)fortunately, the game keeps evolving, the rules keep changing and the rewards keep increasing. Right now, it’s just too interesting and too much fun to stop playing.
