Pay Per Click – Black Hat Style

Here’s an article by Mikkel deMib Svendsen from back in March discussing Black Hat PPC Management.

Black Hat PPC management is the art of getting around stupid rules and restraining guidelines to gain a competitive advantage over your competitors in PPC engines.

The article discusses:

1. Avoiding Direct URLs so you can retain high CTR ratings
2. Cloaking the PPC Editors so you can add (among other things) pop-ups
3. Avoiding the Budget Function

The article doesn’t discuss bid jamming or eliminating bid gaps through Smart Bidding – but that’s more white hat than black.

Of course, if you have anything resembling a real PPC ad spend and don’t have automated bid management software you’re like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest – you don’t have a prayer.

Many in the shadier side of the search marketing industry are in on the click-fraud secret as well, so much so that they publish how-to guides and self-congratulatory blogs. Frighteningly, spyware and malware makers are also in on the secret, often benefiting by becoming unwanted content-delivery partners. [...]
