What’s the Socializer?
The Socializer allows you to easily submit a link to several social bookmarking systems. Instead of having a link to each social bookmarking website, you have a single link to all of them!
I haven’t installed it yet, but I’m going to. It looks really cool.

I looked at Socializer yesterday. It gives you the option of selecting a bookmark site from a large selection of sites but it just seemed like more clicks to do the same thing as individual icons. Unless you are just trying to save space on your site it just makes more work for users. It would seem like, more work = fewer bookmarks.
Wow. That’s awful. If anyone wants to create some real link bait – make what socializer should have been. 1 button, 1 click, submit to all the social bookmarkers. I’d even pay $40 for that.
That’s what I thought this was.
Imo this tool is certainly useful.. but a little ungainly.
It appears when someone click s on the link (generated for your webpage) they go to a page featuring links to a number of those social bookmarking sites (ie Digg) with the html already coded for the webpage in question…
But personally I think it’d be even more convenient, if there was a button/link on the webpage (requesting the bookmarking) with a built in drop-down tab with each of those sites listed… and clicking on one or more would open in a new window.
An example of something similar to what I’m talking about is the ‘quicksub’ ustility that replaces RSS subscribe chicklets with one drop down menu.
Hover over the top orange “RSS” icon to the how it works….

Like I say, excellent and timely idea – but it’d be better if the bookmarking ability was inherent to the actual webpage. (but of course that makes it more difficult for the creator to generate revenue)…
Just my 2 cents and thanks for the heads up!
–1 button, 1 click, submit to all the social bookmarkers. –
The only thing with that is, people have to have an account with each of those (or many of these) bookmarking sites, like digg fer instance.
……so each time a visitor wanted to use this utility (to bookmark a page) they’d have to sign into every one of those sites – if, indeed, they have an account there…
Maybe a drop-down menu could appear with radio buttons for each bookmarking site they wanted to tag the page for, with that menu clearly indicating they have to have an account and sign in to any they choose…?
There’s a very good product idea in this thread somewhere.
I’m the author of the Socializer. Never thought I’d get a link from SEO Blackhat! Thanks!
Some points to consider:
1. As a webmaster, you may want to save space. Instead of having a link to each service, you have only link to all of them.
2. If a service updates its API, you need to change your code too. With the Socializer, you don’t worry about API changes.
3. If the Socializer adds new services (as happened today), you immediately gain access to them too.
4. If you have social bookmark links on your site, you might lose bookmarks if your visitors use other services. (This one is for Joe Banner – first comment above).
If you want completely automated submissions, well then that can be arranged. But I guess I’ll call it the Spamalizer then
Pierre
Spamalizer! Yes that’s exactly what we want! Where do I sign up? Make sure the app has the ability to pick which “Profile” to submit to with no limit on the number of profilies (well, actually 1000 will be enough).
If anything has the ability to be a spamalizer it would be this: http://www.onlywire.com/, if only to bookmark all of your sites and pages yourself with one click and it has an API.
I thought that where you’re heading
What do you mean by “profiles”? I’m not as well versed in the dark side of SEO as some people around here.
Pierre
By profiles, I mean that I don’t want to bookmark it only ONCE. I want to have multiple logins at each one. So, my wife, dog, cat, chipmunk, kids, nephews aunts and uncles can all use the app to bookmark at all the social bookmarking sites at ones.
So lets say I have a profile of grate1 with a username and password for all the social bookmark sites. At one point, I press the button and grate1 bookmarks at all the sites. Then 45 mins latter, my dog is using the computer and wants to bookmark with his profile . . . get the idea?
No one uses social bookmarks. It has nothing to do with SEO.
-Shyster
OK. I get the profiles idea now. I like it too. Now if I can only get in gear and code it!
Shyster: IMHO, you’re very wrong about social bookmarks being irrelevant to SEO. They provide a new marketing channel that really works and provide lots of good backlinks. Social bookmarks have helped quintuple my website’s traffic!
