That’s just one of the great quotes from CNN’s article on Kids in Nigeria running Various Internet Scams. It’s easy to say scamming is wrong, but if you found a way to make some real money at age 14 when both your parents make about $30 a month, what would you do?

[…] Every couple of days I like to read some of the post over at BlackHat.com. Most are just about small stuff around the internet, but now and then you find something really interesting about SEO or something off the wall. […]

If you can live with $30 a month, this would be like heaven.
Thanks for pointing out this article!

You don’t seriously expect me to believe that do you? ;^)

[…] Apparently, “White people are too gullible. They are rich, and whatever I gyp them out of is small change to them.” That’s the pull quote from SEO Black Hat and CNN. […]

Andrew Johnson Says:

I started an PC building business a few years ago, never got off the ground. Despite this I regularly get e-mail from various sources asking if I ship to X country. Big companies can obsorb the costs (not cheaply, but they won’t go bankrupt), however for the tiny electronics e-commerce sites one con can put you into a really ugly hole.

There really isn’t a compelling reason for the Nigerian government to crack down on this stuff, at least right now. What I find interesting is with all of this post-9/11 anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist banking laws, which have even managed to be adapted to former banking safe havens, how these con artists hold on to the money. Essentially, this money is all electronic 1s and 0s. There has to be banks on the other end that are benefiting big from this.

My bread and butter is in the payment processing industry. Andew, you are correct to a large extent when you say that the banks gain from this. For each cc chargeback they can charge arond 25-40$ from the merchant, a so called chargeback fee. No clever merchant ever ships to a 3rd world country.

If we see this nigerian stuff in a broad perspective, the nigerians themselves of course are the ones that looses in the long run. Much like the afgan heroin farmers. No one wants to invest there because of all the crap and trouble -> things continue to suck.

The way I see it, they’re taking large sums of money out of very racist hands. All the power to them. Given their current government status it’s probably their best shot at survival as a people. Read up on the boer war and the (multiple) scramble(s) for africa…

Now every talk show host is trying to mock the pope for suggesting condoms as a cure to aids… because they all own shares in pfizer and are eager to sell AIDS medication to the entire continent…

And I hope nobody actually takes CNN seriously, it’s the most one sided peice of crap propaganda machine that a non-American has ever witnessed!

I suggest Quadszilla google bomb the PNAC’s newamericancentury.org site for the term “NEW WORLD ORDER” The world needs to know the lies these admitted advocates yellow journalists are feeding into all of your “respected” news agencies… take a look at the list of their writers (New York Times… Wall Street Journal.. and a handful of other major city newspapers…)

I’m just curious how long the world is going to sit still while the American government attempts to control every last inch of it…
