[...] SEO Black Hat is right: Google did get a ridiculous amount of press for donating $30,000 to Creative Commons, a nice gesture that pales in comparison to those of its big “evil” competition. Google’s 30 grand was mostly a gesture, a vote of confidence in CC, which aims to expand the amount of available creative works. While CC could use the money, Google isn’t exactly hurting from the donation, which came out of $800,000,000 in profits (just from the last quarter). Good for Google, but… Compare that paltry donation to what Microsoft did in October. Microsoft had a giving campaign during last month, October, where it matched employee donations, and in one month they raised $63 million dollars. That’s what a one month campaign resulted in. 58% of the employees at MS contributed and MS added $1 for each $1 the employees gave. [...]

[...] Google’s Marketing perfekt ? Filed under: Microsoft, Google — Xandi @ 1:19 pm While trolling digg this morning, I noticed that Google made the front page because of a $30,000 donation to creative commons. Now, don’t get me wrong, if someone in the SEO community were to give $30k to Creative Commons or any charity - that might be link worthy: maybe even Digg worthy. ….
Nice story about Google's marketing. Just wanted to let you know I'm the founder of an actual Church dedicated to worshiping Google.

www.TheChurchOfGoogle.org

Oh the irony.

I don't think that Google's marketing is necessarily 2100 times better than Microsoft's, just that geeks are the people visiting Digg and geeks are the ones who love Google. Hence, they are much more likely to Digg the story.

Anyway, loved the remark about Google being god-like. I agree, which is why I created a parody religion surrounding it. Hail Google.

Kudos.

Might have fucked you on the Digg'ing, Quad. Looks like the Digg on your plugin and I nearly simultanously Dugg it.

http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Google_s_Marketing_2100_Times_Better_Than_Microsoft_s_2

So, now you're probably getting double opportunity for traffic but split-opportunity on a front pager.

They need a Delete Submission feature.
