Fun With Amazon Feedback

If you have to deal with problems, you might as well have fun with it.

Fun With Amazon Feedback

After last weeks thread, the 250 best movies of the last 30 years, I decided to order some movies from the amazon marketplace. That’s where people sell used DVDs on Amazon.

So far I’ve had to communicate 3 times with the sellers. Here were two of the emails I had to send:

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I love Braveheart. It’s a great movie. One of my favorites. I love the part where he’s rallying the troops on the battle field and says “What would you give for just one chance, just one chance! To tell your enemy that while they may take our lives, they will never take . . . our FREEEEDOM!”

That part is classic.

But when I ordered Dawn of the Dead from you, I wasn’t looking for Braveheart in a Dawn of the Dead Box.

I would much prefer to have, I don’t know, Dawn of the Dead. Being as how that’s what I ordered and all.

How would you like to proceed to fix this?

and another:

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that although used, the box for “Friends like Harry” is beautiful. I really enjoyed the box a lot. They did a great job on it. But I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sending along the DVD to go with it at some point? Normally when I buy DVDs they send the box and the DVD at the same time. I think that makes more sense, but if you guys prefer to do it the other way, who am i to judge?

What’s the ETA on Delivery of the DVD?

So far 3 problems out of 18. Maybe the used DVD business ain’t all it’s cracked up to be . . .

Dear, Mr. Zilla,

Our records indicate that you purchased Dawn of the Dead. If you have received Brave Heart we ask that you kindly return it. You pay the shipping and a nominal restocking fee of 257.64 USD. Once we receive our copy of braveheart. (which you have stolen from us!) we will release your copy of Dawn of the Dead, which you will also pay the shipping and handling on.

Sincerely,
CLASS

Impressive that you’re taking the time to be humorous about it!

Where these actual “stores” or just someone who was unloading a few of their personal items on Amazon?

I’ve found the feedback systems on Amazon (and eBay for that matter) to be pretty damn useful. Out of all the stuff I’ve purchased online the only problems have been from my own mistakes.

I sell lots of used books via Amazon Marketplace.

We do sometimes goof up and send someone the wrong book.

I buy lots of CDs on there and have yet to have a complaint. But I do check the feedback and tend to buy from the professional sellers and not just some guy selling out of his spare room.

My main gripe is the sellers who seem to think like new is a condition encompassing all sorts of defects and damages.

As far as the feedback goes. I hate the morons who leave my store negative feedback because they didn’t enjoy the author’s book.
