It’s not like Google was ever the paragon of transparency or helpfully answering questions, but the Official Google answers will no longer attempt to be a well of knowledge: Google answers has been shut down.

What are your thoughts Quads – Google conceding defeat to Yahoo? Bigger, better things to work on or just got bored with it?

  2. QuadsZilla says:

Maybe that just thought it was stupid and no one would use it. Like if you have a question, why not just go to the google tool bar and type it in?

  3. Heapseo says:

Also with the strong emergence of wikipedia over the last year or so, especially its prominence in Google’s SERPS (for ‘information request’ type searches), they might not think they can (or want to) compete with such a resource.

LOL perhaps the most interesting questions one might pose to google they weren’t answering anyway, but i always really like seeing their developments come and go over time. it’s when a company isn’t demonstrating ongoing experiments that it’s a problem.

It’s interesting timing, in light of the fact that Yahoo has started to integrate their answers product in their SERPs. I think Google conceded. Perhaps this is not an area they need. They’re focused on expanding their advertising empire and assimilating YouTube.

Hey Quads, only jsut noticed this post – must have missed it on my RSS reader! I made a similar post last week highlighting some of the more interesting onebox featrues that google have either been testing or are currently live for some searches – screenshots available at http://www.heapseo.com/blog/2006/11/23/would-you-like-onebox-with-your-search-results-sir/

It’s a shame, really. I’ve been using yahoo answers to drive traffic to my site (yahoo answers has nofollow links)

I hope ms live search has some kind of “me too!” answers product!
