My wife’s 20 year old nephew, Renan, was shot in Belem, Brazil, on Saturday because someone wanted to steal his $200 cell phone. He took one shot to the abdomen that hit his liver and is currently in the hospital for further treatment.
This past Christmas, I bought one of my cousins in the US that Sony Ericsson W810i Phone for like $500. It’s just so crazy to think that there are people willing to kill someone for even less than that.

Yea, my wifes from Guatemala. They have just as many homicides there as here. But Guatemala has 10 million people, we have 300 million in the US
That sucks, hopefully he’ll pull through to a full recovery.
I used to live in Phoenix, I have seen people killed for less. A few of my friends have been jumped by people with guns, but I don’t know what they expected to get, not many people in that area have money.
Keep us posted on his recovery. Liver wounds are complicated and I’m sure there are a lot of us who’d donate to a paypal acct if he’s in dire straits.

I live in Brazil, I’m really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately cell phones and mp3 players are the main target nowadays. I really hope he gets better really soon.
Life is getting dangerous. Last year one guy fired a gun near me to get some of my stuff on the beach (including digital camera) – I was in Porto de Galinhas (northeast of Brazil), a very popular and beautiful place. Fortunately they didn’t hurt us.

I remember back in the 80’s when Air Jordan sneakers came out. Kids were being killed left and right for their shoes. It’s hard to own anything nice anymore because there is always some fucker waiting around the corner to take it from you.
