Love it - the idea of search engine reputation management/data-ming reputation management is key to the success of people these days. While you send messages and interact throughout web 2.0, you're leaving tracks - The truth is, we are now all becoming brands of one - What you did yesterday, today and every day in the future, it will be recorded - so either stay anonymous or build your personal brand. This may all be scary but I feel as though it's actually a step-up. What is privacy while we're trying to create a world far more advanced than what exists today? I mean, I would hate to be taped, day-in, day-out. But that's a different form of privacy.

As for Google wishing to study our strands of DNA and index our genome much like they have indexed the web - this will only further our understanding of the genome and our future. Just make money, create your brand and don't be paranoid. Great post and all the facts are completely laid out, I just don't want paranoia to exist =oP. Quad, You just rule!, man...

I had a manager tell me that during a review once, threatening to file a complaint on my permanent record...."With who?" I thought, "The FBI?".

The web is our record -- and that's a good thing.

Needless to say I no longer work for that company. After transferring internally, I decided to leave completely, and found a kick-ass job where I get to have a greater impact.

That's why you should always use an alias on forums or blogs. Some of my best freinds wouldn't even be able to find my blog even though it's a top hit in google for certain phrases.

It's funny. I'm always trying to get a good ranking for different sites I'm working on... I'm just glad that my name isn't on any other them :O)

Maybe Mr. Arrogant, I mean Arrington should have thought about the same thing.

He posted a lot of shit about the "dirty" domain industry and neglected to inform his readers he was the CEO of Pool. It's now making it's rounds all over the internet.

It is going much farther than this. Google recently took a stake in a genetics testing company. How much longer before a person's genetic makeup is available to the public? http://onlinesaleschannels.wordpress.com/2007/05/22/do-you-want-google-to-have-your-genetic-information/
