Black Hat and Twitter

If this were a twitter update, I could write something as compelling as “I worked for half the day completely naked.”, “I am eating a pear.” , ” or “I just took the biggest shit – it stank.”

Whatever.

While I don’t use twitter, many people swear by it. The more followers you have, the more people want to follow you; it’s like a high school popularity contest . . . or a cult. Graywolf just posted an interesting observation regarding twitter and followers:

When you create a new profile on twitter, and the account is banned, twitter’s system does not remove it from the following count of others. So if you were to create thousands of fake profiles, and follow people could artificially inflate their follower counts without having to go through the trouble of finding real friends.

So if you want more “followers” – all you gotta do is make ‘em.

  1. Indeed, tis worth doing if you have a Twitter Wordpress plugin that shows on your blog the # of friends. It counts for something then… possibly percieved as more popular… dare I say… reputable. Same could be said for Feedburner etc…

LinkedIn is another one too. I’d possibly make up Matt Cutt accounts and see how many people connected to me. Suckersss. But of course, I wouldn’t bother doing that as a means to inflate my own connections. Although, getting friends on there is easier, just by creating a really simple Q&A question that lots will reply too, then send out ‘thank you’ messages with a “Btw, I’ve put a friend request in, please accept as I love to connect to people in my industry/area of interest”. Not actually achieving anything with this inflated numbers right now, but I’m sure I’ll figure that out at some point… but whatever it is, a 1% conversion rate of xx,xxx is much better than xxx.

It’s easier to get more users. Just use twollow.com and select some kw’s that you want to “follow”. Then some users will think that you are a good source and will follow you. Try it.
